Profile

Overview

Usman Asif Hafeez Khan is a Director of Morgan Hill Solicitors and Head of the Wills & Probate Department, based at the firm's Ilford Head Office. He leads the firm's private client practice, with particular focus on English and Islamic wills, estate planning and non-contentious probate.

A triple-qualified lawyer with over twenty years' post-qualification experience across three jurisdictions — Pakistan, England and Wales, and the Republic of Ireland — Usman advises individuals and families on wills and estate planning, probate, immigration and family law. He takes personal conduct of his matters from first instructions through to completion.

Career

Usman joined Morgan Hill Solicitors in August 2020 and was subsequently appointed a Director. Before joining the firm, he practised as a solicitor and consultant with established law firms in London and Dublin.

Areas of Practice

  • Wills & Probate — English wills, estate and inheritance tax planning, non-contentious probate, grants of representation and estate administration, including liaison with executors, beneficiaries, HMRC and financial institutions, and the handling of overseas assets.
  • English & Islamic (Shariah-compliant) Wills — a particular specialism. Usman prepares wills for Muslim clients and multi-faith families that meet the formal requirements of the Wills Act 1837 while reflecting the fixed shares prescribed under Islamic inheritance principles (fara'id), structured to make appropriate use of UK inheritance tax reliefs. He also acts for clients with property, bank accounts and business interests in more than one jurisdiction — including Pakistan, the Gulf and East Africa — co-ordinating with overseas counsel so that an English will does not inadvertently revoke or conflict with a will made abroad.
  • Immigration — entry clearance and leave to remain applications across family, private life, student, work and human rights routes; grounds of appeal, pre-action correspondence, judicial review and bail applications before the Home Office, the First-tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal.
  • Family Law — divorce and separation, financial remedies, private children law (child arrangements, prohibited steps and specific issue orders), and non-molestation and occupation orders, together with consent orders and settlement documentation.

International & Cross-Border Experience

Qualified in Pakistan, England and Wales, and the Republic of Ireland, and with professional experience in both London and Dublin, Usman brings a cross-jurisdictional perspective to private client and immigration instructions.

He regularly advises clients whose estates, families or immigration matters span Africa, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and South Asia, working with correspondent counsel in those jurisdictions where required.
